So. I guess this is how I will end my hiatus. With a very short picture-story of the insanity I’ve been dealing with.
A few months ago, my steering started acting strange. Got really sticky feeling. At first I thought it was the steering column itself. By the time we had one shipped to us, we already realized it was something else…. the rack and pinion. We continued to drive it as long as we could until one night upon entering my apartment complex, the rack gave up. WOuldn’t steer left anymore. Got the car parked and there she stayed.
With a bunch of help from AMAZING Supra fans, I was able to get a new (well, remanufactured) rack and pinion from Autozone. I also ordered new outer tie rods as well. My old ones were showing their age, one of them was even bent! (pictured)
However, little did I know that the outer tie rods, in almost every auto parts store catalogue, is the incorrect part number. They gave me the rods to a Celica, which are an inch longer!
By this time I am having all sorts of financial issues and having problems buying new tie rods. I got the correct part number and tried again, through Autozone, where I was greated with some SHITTY quality MOOG toe rods that looked like they were made by a cyclops. AGAIN we tried ordering tie rods through my boyfriends work, Advance, and THOSE turned out to be too long as well. Finally I got the correct ones through ROCKAUTO.COM, but not before my tires were destroyed from driving with super positive toe.
And then to top it ALL off, someone hits my car in the Advance parking lot. Freaking swell.
However, I am glad to report my car is now back on the road, two brand new tires. I once again feel complete and this was a VERY painful lesson to learn.
